Oakes was born in Salisbury, Wiltshire, in 1983. He experienced childhood in Fordingbridge, Hampshire. He was head kid at Minister Wordsworth’s School, in Salisbury. His most memorable occupation was behind the stage at the Salisbury Playhouse. Oakes graduated with a First in English Writing from the College of Manchester. He moved on from the Bristol Old Vic Theater School in 2007.
