Lauren Bennett was a softball player at James Madison University, she was a key member of the team and played in the position of catcher. She had represented the university on the 2021 Women’s College World Series team as a freshman catcher last year.

Releasing a statement, President Jonathan Alger said, Our hearts are aching, hearing the news of the loss of one of our student-athletes. Lauren Bernett was a high-achieving member of our softball team and a great ambassador of JMU and our athletics program.

Lauren was a native of McDonald, Pennsylvania and she attended South Fayette High School before choosing James Madison University.

She was majoring in Biology and kept Pre-Vet as a minor during her time at JMU, but she could not complete her studies as she was just in her sophomore year at the time of her death.

Lauren Bennett was born to her parents Scott and Kim Bernett.

Her mother Kim also played softball during her college, she played for  Washington and Jefferson College.
