Casey Martin Leg Injury Update

It appears that Martin’s leg has been affected since birth by a debilitating condition called Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber Syndrome, which restricted circulation in the lower portion of his right leg and makes walking difficult.

In October 2019, when he was pulling in his garbage cans near a curb at his home in Oregon, he accidentally stepped off the curb in between the street, which was under construction, and broke his defective leg.  He mentioned that he once considered an amputation thinking that this would enable him to walk without pain.

Following October 2021, Martin underwent successful surgery to amputate his right leg. According to the doctors, the surgery went well enough to allow him the future use of a prosthesis.

In the meantime, Jeff Quinney, the 2000 U.S., assistant coach at Oregon, will take over while Martin recovers.
