Luc Montagnier Dead: Man Who Co-Discovered HIV Dies At 89
Luc Montagnier was a French virologist who was born on 18 August 1932, in Chabris, Indre, France. Montagnier graduated from the University of Poitiers and the University of Paris. He also worked as a researcher at the Pasteur Institute in Paris and as a full-time professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China.
Montagnier is best known for his joint discovery of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) with Françoise Barré-Sinoussi and Harald zur Hause for which they received the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
Montagnier received top awards during his working days. Some notable awards include; the 1986 Louis-Jeantet Prize for Medicine, 1988 Japan Prize 2008 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
Montagnier was married to the very beautiful Dorothea Ackerman. the couple had three children.
Montagnier died in Neuilly-sur-Seine on 8 February 2022, at the age of 89. The actual cause of his death has not been released yet but considering his age, it is fair to say he died naturally.
