Jeffrey Robert Lurie was born in the US on September 8, 1951. He is a producer of movies, a businessman, and the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League.
His great-grandfather Philip Smith founded the important motion picture company General Cinema Corporation, which is now headed by his uncle Richard A. Smith. He left academia in 1983 to work there.
He acted as the middleman between General Cinema Corporation and the Hollywood production sector as a business executive. He provided advice to The General Cinema’s national film purchasing bureau.
In 1985, he established Chestnut Hill Productions, which went on to create a number of Hollywood films and television programs. The company initially began by developing ideas in a multi-feature joint venture with Tri-Star Pictures. In 1987, MGM/UA Communications Co. bought up three of the Chestnut Hill films, two of which were with Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros.
